Reliably gets me into an enjoyably game. No settings to fret over. I wish I could disable ads, but overall a good app.

The matchmaking is non existent. I have played go for 2 weeks, I am very much a beginner. My first 3 games on 13x13 were against a 3k, a 6k, and a 10k. This was an incredibly unfun experience and I will be removing the app
Want to play against poorly written bots then watch an intrusive ad? Then this is the app for you. If you want to play actual go, then check out one of the real options. This app is garbage.
The matchmaking and the games seem quite fun. It’s nice to hop into a really quick 9x9 match. I really REALLY want to be able to pay to get rid of the intrusive ads in this app, as it would make it much more enjoyable. This matches on this app are very short, and you can decide you want to play and be matched up and finished in 5 minutes or less. That’s really great! What’s not great is the automatic scoring that happens which isn’t super transparent. I think it’s Chinese rules with a Komi of 7? I’d really like to see how the computer counted things (e.g., with white or black squares overlayed on areas that were considered points for each player). The instructions for the app recommend leaving no stones in your territory, which might help with the automatic scoring. I was upset about the scoring at first, but it seems like it might be okay if you keep that in mind, despite it not being very transparent. Overall it’s a bit of a frustrating mixed bag! On the one hand the app is pretty ugly and riddled with ads that I find obtrusive, but I would also be lying if I didn't say it was the most fun I have had on 9x9 games (especially after disabling matching with bots). It’s just so quick to get into a game and as a result I’m playing a lot more.
Best go game for tactile and satisfying go competition around the world
I’ve used this app for several years. In terms of playing Go, it is wonderful: It has customizable graphics, Chinese rules with 7 komi, the option to play 9x9 or 13x13, and simple matchmaking. My big complaint, and why I have deleted it from my phone, is the ads: They are videos that play sound (and cut off anything you might be listening to), and sometimes they don’t give you the option to X out until they finish. I also strongly suspect that, because this app hijacks the sound system, it has given my phone problems making and receiving phone calls. This is inexcusable. I wish they would either go back to static, soundless ads or give me an option to pay money to get rid of ads altogether, because the game itself is everything I want in a Go app.
This is one of the best Go apps, by far, especially if you’re into small boards! However, it does have intrusive ads, and no way to get rid of them. This is the only app I’d be willing to pay for to remove ads, but I’d be more than happy to pay a monthly subscription fee to support the app. However, no such option exists. As such, it’s incredibly obnoxious to use, hence why I’m knocking a star of my review.
I play 9x9 on my phone all the time with GoQuest. It’s one of my most used apps. Starting a game is fast. There are plenty of players at all skill levels, and some bots too.
I’ve been using this app for about 7 years. It’s not that great in my opinion which may beg the question: if I don’t like it, why am I still using it after 7 years and the answer is basically twofold: 1) I want to improve my game and this is the only mobile app you can use and play against real people and 2) basically I just can’t stop. They could add more features I think like chat or request undo or add friend or something… I don’t know. Go is a pretty adversarial game and maybe there’s just no way around that. Ie, it’s hard to make the app upon which the game is played a nice place to spend screen time. My 2 cents
Its great
When I try to make a tournament it won’t let me because there is something wrong with the name and I used four random characters multiple times. Help
Absolutely fantastic app, any potential users download it now. If I may suggest one feature to the devs, I would really like GoQuest to save one game per player based on strongest opponent ELO that they beat. This way you can see at least one good game if someone is inactive for a while, while now the server just deletes every game. Also, if I get that sweet sweet victory against an 8dan I wouldn't have to worry about archiving it somewhere else, but could look at it with GoQuest itself!
I’ve been playing on go quest for about a year now. From my very early learning days and on it has been enjoyable. One of my favorite parts about this app is as I’ve learned more and more, there are always players available around my level to meet and challenge things I’ve learned. (I will say, I mean real players. Disabling bots in the settings menu once you’ve gotten the basics down is great.) The one and only change I would make ***LISTEN UP MIND WALK!*** would be adding a chat feature. I cant tell you how many times I’ve had a very enjoyable game with a player and wished I could send a message thanking them for the game, or complimenting plays they had made. That being the only thing I would add, this app definitely deserves 5/5 stars. Thanks for making such an accessible and fun go platform!
Great app decent AI however 19x19 gameplay is locked.
GoQuest is probably the best server on the phone right now, but one thing I'd like to see added is an easy way to copy the SGF from the app. Right now I have to copy the text from sharing, select from that text the URL, navigate to that URL, then export, which can take a few minutes. Having the export feature in the app would make everything easier.
This helps me play with some people I know this is AWSOME
Hope more people come to play and the developer can expand the functions of the app.
Halfway though my first game a pop-up ad came up and ended it? No thank you
Sorry, I will be uninstalled this game today. There have been way too much cases where I loss the game simply because the use of Chinese rule.
I don’t believe the scoring at the end is always correct, which is frustrating. I believe there should be a transparent explanation of the score after a game, and an option to select dead stones with your opponent once both players pass: features that currently don’t exist. I wish there were also options to change the time controls and Komi instead of having only 1 preset option per board size. I enjoy the snappy sound effects of the stones when they are placed, and the app is simple to use (although made for an older iOS). There are a few styles of stones/boards to choose from which is nice.
Funny...I read some reviews and I wonder if they’re playing the same app. I’m a beginner and I’ve played maybe 60? games on this program AND unlike many of the other sites mentioned this app is so EASY and fun to use. I’m at 12Kyu and I’ve had my head handed to me by much better players (that’s how you learn) and I appreciate the dumb bots...a little positive reinforcement isn’t that bad...that’s what GoQuest has that the others don’t. I have em all and as a beginner I keep coming back to GoQuest because it’s so easy to use and I get plenty of games. Addicted to the quick 13X13 games!
Full of bugs. Forced to view full screen video ads. Cannot play 19x19 until reach 1250 in 13x13 or 9x9, while this is almost impossible, because most players are 2kyu~1D. Ruined fun of go. Better try other app or website.
I have been using this app for 4 years, enjoyed
The rules section has no information for beginner players. It’s obvious that English is a second language so it may be as simple as them having someone modify those pages but it’s also clear that whoever wrote them is making the assumption that you already know how to play
Play is fun. The app copies from your clipboard for no apparent reason, which seems pretty sketchy
Will 19x19 ever stop being under maintenance?!
I tried to play on 19 by 19 and i need to earn some points before i can playing on 19 size board. But to earn the neccessary pts i need to win against 3 dan 1 dan 2 kyus? what is the purpose of blocking me from playing on 19 by 19 board
Only thing I have reviewed really Good multiplayer go. Got a lot of cool features and very fun.
This is my most fun app. I play it every day and am addictive it
I imagine this app would be good if the games didn’t lose connection constantly eat up you time without showing you where your opponent moved has moved. You can be crushing your opponent but lose due to time running out because the app runs the timer even when you can see where the opponent has moved and can’t move yourself. This really should be fixed.
I’m new to Go and trying to learn against other new players. This has me playing players way beyond my skill level. And none of them allow the use of handicaps. It’s extremely discouraging playing a game and losing five times in a row with your best point spread 60. I think it should have an option to not play against higher rated players if they don’t allow handicaps. Because I know I’m going to lose a lot as a beginner, but I’m not learning how to get better.
Bots are horrible and the actual players are quite godly at the game. It can be irritating for the middle ground players
Best go app out there
There is no way to change your profile on the App??? Where do you enter your user code???
Easy fast way to play however I also think there needs to be a better time warning. I really like this app and it’s immensely improved my strength. Time and design is something to be improved though. P.S. I love the watching and how you can choose specific openings to watch.
Wrongly changed lopsided win to lost. It happens again today. GoQuest has trouble with Alive-in-seki. Please fix it. A Life death bug happened on 1-21-2019. Then I will give five stars.
this program let you play real people and you don’t have to do anything fancy just hit one button that says play and within a few seconds somebody from anywhere in the world response and your game is on it is awesome and you can play at 9 x 9 game in just five minutes you can play when you’re busy
First of all, great game! Finally a deserving Go game on iOS. Two suggestions for developers: 1) Whenever a game ends and it says “you win” or “you lose” - could you break down the score? I’m a rookie and I would like to know how many points I got for captured pieces, territories and etc 2) It would be great if I could add a person as a friend and play together (in addition to random online opponents)
I’m not one whose intimidated by my opponent’s strength, but there needs to be better matchmaking. I’ve been paired with single-digit kyus more than double-digit kyus with all of my human matches, and I lose the rank points I would have earned upon losing? There is a huge skill-gap between sdk’s and ddk’s, so this is a huge oversight.
Simple but great app. It has never crashed and works perfectly.
Go Quest has a good concept of focusing on human to human matches and its rating system has both a point rank and a Kyu level, which is nice. The interface of the gameplay is easy to use. I even stopped playing Clash Royals because of this app! However, I really would like to see some changes: 1) add warnings when the time runs below 30 secs and 10 secs. There have been too many times when I was winning but then lose a game on time 2) make the “My Page” easier to navigate. The arrows are confusing and I have no clue what each thing leads to unless I click through all of them. 3) this is minor, but the app initially looks like it’s a personal project and not a company-made product. I think if there is a little polishing done, it would really increase the number of users. But overall, it’s one of the best go apps out there and I highly recommend! (As long as the time issue gets resolved)
It’s nice because a lot of people are available to play however you will find yourself outmatched a lot. I never really play anyone that isn’t way better than me and it’s hard to learn from getting killed every game. No filter or way to play people of similar kyu rating.
Great for fast games. Wish they had a rematch feature :)
Wish they'd make the board use all available screen space. Huge empty margins
Good Game to keep your skills sharp against variety of good players.
Great app, does what's promised well.
Finally an online go app thanks
It's a great app but there needs to be not as much maintenance for the 19x19 board...
Worst go app I've ever experienced. This app is a complete bully. As soon as you are close to a promotion it will INTENTIONALLY match you with someone who is WAYYYY higher rank and skill than you are just to make sure you don't rank up. I've lost my temper so many times with this pos app that I probably lost a few years of my life due to how mad it's made me. Even if I choose to play with a bot it will still match me with someone who is 3 ranks higher than me TO MAKE SURE I LOSE.
